Hope everyone enjoyed their day off yesterday. It was so pretty here yesterday. The weather was in the low 70s and beautiful. The kids played outside and then we went to see the Lego movie. It was very cute :)
Today we are back to school. And a new week is starting with a new pattern. We were excited to test one of the newest patterns from Seamingly Smitten https://www.etsy.com/shop/SeaminglySmitten. It is the Carrollton Avenue dress and is some of my favorite things - very cute and versatile AND a quick sew. You can make it as a tank or as a cap sleeve. And if you want to get all matchy matchy, there is a Mom pattern too!
Well, we went back to school today. Fortunately, we did not get hit as bad as our northern neighbors. Our prayers are with everyone impacted by this storm. This has definitely been one crazy winter.
This is one of her favorite patterns too as you can do so much with it. I like using this with upcycled shirts. When we saw today's primary shirt at the store, she had to have it. You will soon see why.
If you haven't been under a rock and you have children, I am sure you have heard this little ditty
On our trip to Disney last weekend (has it already been a week since we left?? Wow - this time last week we were packing!), we heard this song Over and Over and I might mention OVER again. So, when we saw the shirt - it was a gimme.
So - what does the fox say? Let's see if our pictures will tell us!
This is what Mom tells the fox to say when she has heard the song too many times! ;)
So, after hearing the song a million times - we still dont know what the fox says.
And since we are taking puppeting at our local theatre academy, we had to get this shot ;) The fox won't let her say what he says!
Well, we won't have an outfit Monday because the kiddos are out for President's Day, so we will be back on Tuesday.
Tomorrow is Valentine's Day, so I hope you all have someone special to give a hug to - Fur Babies count!
And before I go, I just have to share something that has weighed heavily on my heart today. I don't sew for the younger set, but if you do, please consider buying one of these patterns today -http://www.craftinessisnotoptional.com/2014/02/love4jlk.html. The designer of these patterns was close friends with a family who lost their beautiful daughter, Jennifer today. The picture below is from her Mothers blog. She was such a beautiful girl.
I can't even express to you in words how I felt reading the blog today. I only read the most recent entries and I could barely breathe. It made me think of all the times I get annoyed with my two or fuss at them over little things, or blow them off to do chores or work around the house. Just reading her accounts of reading stories to Jennifer or brushing her hair - things I take for granted. Right now, I have two healthy, happy children and that is such a huge huge blessing. I have my daughter standing next to me right now - hair dripping wrapped in a towel getting ready to get dressed for bed. She is so perfect and so here, so alive. I pray no one reading this ever has to go through that pain. This family needs help financially as the burdens of cancer are SO expensive. Craftiness is not optional is donating all of their pattern sale proceeds today to the family or you can donate directly here http://www.theyoungandbrave.com/warriors/jennifer-k/. If you can spare even a dollar, please consider it. And if you are a parent, go hug your baby right now. Feel the warm breath coming after them and thank God for that moment. Our hours are truly numbered and we don't know when that number is up for any of us. This moment is all we have guaranteed, right now.
I pray for Jennifer's family - for peace. And I cry for them.
If you can help, please consider donating or purchasing a pattern.
So, I told you we got in late yesterday evening and between trying to do make up school work and getting laundry going and getting unpacked - I needed a definite less is more as far as time is concerned with a pattern. So, I went to an old stand by when you need something quick - upcycling.
I took an old Angry Bird tshirt and cut it at the end of the graphic (you can eyeball this if you do it at home, generally on her, its somewhere around 4-5" below the underarm, but really it depends on the tshirt and the graphics. This one I took to the end of the graphic and left enough for seam allowance). Then, I measured the bottom of the cut shirt. Once you have that measurement, you just cut the other knit in a circle skirt. Basically, take your cut bottom measurement, divide it by 6.28 and get your number X. Fold your knit fabric in half selvage to selvage and then up. From the folded corner, measure from the corner down X, measure down X several places pivoting your tape measure, keeping the measurement from each point down X. Use pins or chalk to mark the points and then connect. Then figure out your length. Measure from your connected X points down to the length and mark those, then cut. For this, I have two lengths. Then, I just rolled hemmed the edges of the knit (although, since its knit, you don't have to finish it at all) and voila - handmade dress. Its cute and flouncy and quick and, most importantly, DONE!
So, check out our happy fun Angry Birds shirt dress.
And, well, I have to let you know we won't have an outfit for tomorrow - they just announced on the news that school has been cancelled for tomorrow because of the dangerous ice storm that is moving into our area. So, we won't have an outfit for tomorrow (good news for me is that is one in the tank for later ;) ) I wish I would be able to have some pretty snow pictures again, but this is supposed to be just ice. This has been a crazy winter. So, be careful if you are getting any of this storm (or any other storm).
Hope you have a wonderful, safe and WARM evening! Till Thursday (I hope they go back Thursday!)
We made it back safely this evening and the girls had a blast. The girls (and their mamas) are exhausted. We were able to visit the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom while we were at Disney World. Here are some of my crappy phone pics :) We will be back with a simple, though handmade, outfit tomorrow! Forgive me for something easy - but we stayed at Magic Kingdom until 11 and then shut down Animal Kingdom last night - then had to get up early this morning for our 6 hour drive home!
Got our tickets and ready for the magic!
At the entrance!
Everybody has to take a castle picture - even if it is a cold and rainy one! (dont you love the 'couture' ears?)
Waiting for Thunder Mountain. They rode this like six times - no joke. (and no fast pass either - the cold and rain kept the crowds low!)
Locking the girls up!
Riding the carousel
Day 2: Animal Kingdom
Primeval Whirl!
Ending the night at the Rainforest Cafe! (dont you love their 'Beast Friends Forever" shirts? We got them for them when they rode Everest for being brave. Then they rode it AGAIN!
And a Volcanooooooooo (they scream this when you order it!)
Not to be confused with the awesome pattern designer Hayley from the blog Welcome to the Mouse House, but the girl and I are heading out tomorrow at lunch to have a long girls weekend at THE Mouse House - Disney World. We are going down with one of her BFFs and her BFFs mom. So, be praying for safe travels because I have a major interstate fear, but I am going to try to work through it so she can have this fun trip opportunity. That being said, we aren't coming back until Monday, so we won't have a school outfit for Monday. School outfits will start back on Tuesday.
And we went to ANOTHER fun place to take pictures. We have a local park that has been around since my parents were young (and they are in their mid 70s). This park has all kinds of fun murals painted all around it. So, to celebrate going to the happiest place on Earth, enjoy these super fun pictures with our Greenstyle Lacy n Lane Hoodie and Lil Blue Boo Twirl Skirt!
Can you tell how excited she is???
So, be safe and have a great weekend and we will see you back here next Tuesday!
Okay, yes, it is back again today. Really, though, it is the last time this week you will see it ;) I mean I ordered all these fabrics from Girl Charlee and several of them just chanted - CR-IH-CKET, CR-IIIIH-CKET. So, what could I do? I mean, I hadn't made one in a border print yet. And it turned out, surprise, surprise - AH-MAY-ZING. My only complaint about this fabric is that it is on the sheer side, so we ended up with a cami and leggings on under it. But, if that's all I have to complain about, I'm doing pretty good.
AND for your viewing pleasure - check out this new place the photog hubby scouted for pictures. It is SO pretty! (and she was a great sport because it was cold).
Okay - so if you are tired of the dress, at least you got some new scenery ;)
So, here is my parenting screw up of the day. So around 9pm after she had studied her head of for a science test this week, she said she wanted a hot donut. So, we loaded everybody in the car and headed to the Kracky Kreme. I fed my kids donuts at almost 10 and got her to bed at 1030. But, in my defense, who can resist the bright red sign. No, I didn't record it on my fitness pal. Somethings you just know *sigh*
Come back tomorrow for a fun outfit that is part of a little announcement. NO, Im not pregnant (puh-leeze, Im not far off from forty with a 13 yr old and a 10 yr old.) and NO I didn't make another Cricket (although I can whip these suckers out in my sleep). It's just something fun :)
