Oh, Mickey, You're So Fine!

Outfit 96 - 2013-14 School Year

A week from today we will hit a huge milestone - the 100th outfit! I am so excited about that. This project has been so important to me and to her and it has been a privilege to be able to share it with all of you. When this blog first started, people were trickling over. Now, hundreds of people view it per day and I have had the privilege of being asked to contribute and pattern test with many talented tween pattern designers. What you see here is the real deal. These are real tween patterns on a real tween girl that are really worn to school every day. My hope is that moms will keep sewing for their older girls or, better yet, teach them to sew for themselves. We don't have to put the machines away once the girls (and boys) hit a size 8. There are definitely challenges to fitting this age but to have this bond is so much fun. This is the age where they will remember Mom made my clothes and hopefully they will want to carry that tradition on when they have kids. Tween patterns are coming out every day! And the more we demand them, the more supply there will be!! Okay, off of my sew for your older girl soapbox :) To celebrate the 100th outfit, we are going to have a giveaway. Be sure to be on the lookout for that next Monday.

So, I'm still working on Disney-inspired ideas that are fun for a tween but still can be worn any day. This one fit the bill and got many compliments. It's another example of simple being good. This is a basic pillowcase dress pattern, but with fun fabric choices and ric rac embellishment, you get a jazzed up Mickey-esque dress. The pattern I used was from Whimsy Couture https://www.etsy.com/shop/whimsycouture. They have many patterns that span up to the tween size range. This pillowcase dress pattern can be found here https://www.etsy.com/listing/106879980/sale-whimsy-couture-sewing?ref=shop_home_active_18&ga_search_query=pillowcase.

It has options to do a trim band bottom, a ruffle, a center inset. Or you could just leave it plain and simple. You can make the ties or use store bought ribbon.

Check out tonight's Mickey themed pillowcase dress. I'm sure you will all agree that Mickey is so fine ;)

She got complimented by several people this afternoon as we ran some errands after school. And, yes, we wore flip flops - it was almost 80 degrees!

Thanks for stopping by!! Hope to see you back tomorrow for a MINNIE Inspired outfit. This Disney sewing is SEW much fun! Although, we may all be sick of Disney before Spring Break :)
