You Gotta Be Kitten Me :)

Outfit 76 - 2013-14 School Year

One thing I try to champion is not to be afraid to take something pre-existing and make it into something new and unique. It is lots of fun to do. Go check out Pinterest and search for things like upcycling. It is amazing what some people can do with garments and fabrics that were destined for a landfill. This blogger http://www.newdressaday.com/does exactly that. She hits up her local thrift stores and I think she only spends a dollar per day. When she finishes her refashions, the clothes look AMAZING. I hit up our Goodwill and other thrift stores all the time. I love lace curtains, unique vintage looking sheets (you can sometimes find new in package vintage floral sheets that give you gobs of yardage and are SO pretty). I also grab cashmere and wool sweaters, general fabrics that catch my eye - and, of course, knits. And use the patterns that you have. Be the designer! You like the hood from this pattern and the bodice from this one, make them work. There is no rule that says every pattern piece has to stay with the pattern it was drafted for.

Today's upcycle is actual not a thrift find, but you could easily do this from one. This shirt is from Walmart and it grabbed her attention as soon as we walked by. She LOVES animals, especially cats.

What did we do?
Well, I cut off the neckline and adapted it to the Greenstyle Lacy n Lane neckline and used their hood http://www.greenstylecreations.com/products/lacy-n-lane-hooded-t-shirt-sizes-3-years-to-14-years.
Then, I cut off the original short sleeves and used that sleeve as a template to draft a long sleeve pattern based on her arm length.

Result?
A one of a kind, unique shirt that she LOVED.

The skirt was shown a few outfits back. The pattern is the Lil Blue Boo Twirl Skirt http://lilblueboo.com/shop/products/The-Twirl-Skirt-PDF-Pattern-and-Tutorial-%252d-Sizes-12M-through-Women%27s-XL-%28plus-doll-size%29.html. She decided to keep that skirt, so we used it with this shirt since I used several of the fabrics from the skirt on the shirt.

So, check out our one of a kind kitten shirt. And, nope, we aren't kitten around ;)

And speaking of kittens - have you heard about the KITTEN BOWL??? Oh my goodness. Go check it out http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/kittenbowl. Our favorite is http://www.hallmarkchannel.com/kittenbowl/muffin.

Muffin looks just like one of our rescue kitties, Lilly.

And if you are interested in adding a new kitty to your home, check out your local Animal Shelter or Rescue. If you are in the west central Georgia area, check out
and if there is anyone in the Branson, MO area looking for an amazing Polydactyl cat, check out Linden

Hope to see you tomorrow for our hump day outfit!!

Oh, archery pics will be coming soon. For those of you who were wondering, our middle school came in Second overall at the tournament. One of our girls placed third overall. My son was only 2 points off of 3rd overall. We go to the regional tournament March 1st where we will see if we can qualify for state!
